(Cricket news) Former India batsman Ambati Rayudu opened up about his decision to join the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) this year where he will be representing the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

“I have heard some really good things about the league, especially the standard of cricket that’s played here.  I am happy to be part of the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots,” said Rayudu.

The former Chennai Super Kings batsman added that he knew that the Patriots have won the title once, and also mentioned the role played by his former teammates Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo.

“Pollard and Bravo used to talk a lot about the CPL. This is the first time I’m playing in a dressing room without any Indians, so that’s a bit strange and it feels a bit different but they’re really nice people. They have been very warm.

“Playing in the CPL is a very different experience as compared to playing in India. They have a lot of music and a lot of fun, it’s all a bit new to me but I’m really enjoying it so far.”

The Hyderabad dasher also took a walk down the memory lane and gave a glimpse of what lies ahead of him after he recently announced his retirement.

“My first tour with the Indian team was of the West Indies and even then it was a great experience. I have some fond memories. My journey started 30 years ago and it’s been quite a journey with all the ups and downs. I am now enjoying the final phase of my career.

“My main aim is to do public service and I’ve been doing it for some while. As and when I get an opportunity to do something with cricket, I will think about it.”

Rayudu will be playing in front of his home fans as the action moves to St. Kitts starting August 23. Cricket fans can watch all the action from the CPL on FanCode.
