Brazil will face Uruguay in the World Qualifiers

Brazil plays Uruguay in Montevideo as part of their 2026 World Cup qualification, they will be attempting to get back to winning ways

(Football news) Uruguay also shared the points in their previous match, a 2-2 tie in Barranquilla with Colombia, while the visitors come into the game fresh off a 1-1 draw with Venezuela.  Having participated in all four of the previous World Cup finals, Uruguay advanced to the quarterfinals in 2018 and the round of 16 in 2014 after being fourth in 2010.

Not only did the Sky Blues not go past the group round of the competition in Qatar in 2022, but this was a first for the team since 2002.

In their three 2026 World Cup qualifying matches thus far, Marcelo Bielsa’s team has won one, drawn one, and lost one. With four points overall, they are now in fourth place in the table, five points behind leaders Argentina and three behind second-place Brazil before the next round of matches.

On September 9, Uruguay defeated Chile 3-1 to start the season. However, they then suffered a loss away to Ecuador and ended up in a 2-2 tie with Colombia in their next match.

Darwin Nunez of Liverpool struck a stoppage-time penalty to give Bielsa’s team a point that could prove to be crucial since they were literally just minutes away from losing to Colombia.

Meanwhile, Brazil advanced to the sixth position in the area with a 1-0 victory against Peru four days after beginning their qualification campaign with a 5-1 triumph over Bolivia on September 9.

Eduard Bello’s goal in the final minutes of play for Venezuela kept the Selection from making it three victories from three games, as they were forced to a 1-1 tie on Thursday. Gabriel Magalhaes had given Brazil the lead in the 50th minute.

After winning the championship for the first time in 2002, the Green-Yellows have not performed well. Despite this, they are the most successful side in World Cup history, having lifted the cup five times.

Brazil finished fourth in 2014 after being eliminated in the quarterfinals in both 2006 and 2010, but they were unable to go past the quarterfinals in 2018 and 2022.

The Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti is rumoured to be the major target for the national team next year, but it’s unclear if he’ll be departing to take over as Real Madrid manager. Fernando Diniz is still serving as interim manager of the team.
