India - Virat Kohli

India win their fourth consecutive match in this World Cup as they beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets. Virat Kohli was awarded the man of the match for his brilliant batting performance, scoring an unbeaten ton in 97 deliveries. India’s next assignment is against New Zealand at Dharamshala and it would be a tough battle for the men in blue as they have a poor record against the blackcaps in World Cups.

Bangladesh won the toss and they elected to field first. The new ball pair of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj started on a high note, giving just 10 runs in the first 5 overs. Later on, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das stepped on the gas pedal and started to play aggressively.

Hardik Pandya suffered an ankle injury and was taken off by the physio in the middle of his opening over. Pandya was replaced by Virat Kohli, who had previously bowled in an ODI 6 years ago against Sri Lanka in 2017 at Colombo. Bangladesh had a successful powerplay as they were 63-0 at the end of the first powerplay.

Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das scored their half centuries and Bangladesh were set to score a 300+ target. Kuldeep yadav got the much needed breakthrough for India, dismissing Tanzid Hasan for 51. Five overs later, Ravindra Jadeja joins the party as he dismisses Najmul Hossain Shanto for just 8 runs. India now clearly had the upper hand in this match.

After the set Litton Das was dismissed by Jadeja, wickets kept falling for Bangladesh as a single batsman failed to score a fifty after the openers were dismissed. Mishfiqur Rahim scored a fighting 38, but he was dismissed by a blinder of a catch by Jadeja at point. Mahmudullah gave his best with a gritty 46, but he was caught behind by Kl Rahul, who took a screamer of a catch.

End of first innings: Bangladesh 256-8; Litton Das 66 (82); Tanzid Hasan 51 (42); Ravindra Jadeja 10-38-0-2; Jasprit Bumrah 10-41-1-2.

The Indian batsman went off on a frenzy start as they were 63-0 at the end of the first powerplay with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill striking at a rate above 95. The Indian captain was the first to be dismissed as he was caught at deep square leg while playing the pull shot, a sight no Indian fan would thought of seeing.

Shubman Gill scored his maiden World Cup fifty but was immediately dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Shreyas Iyer came and went and it was down to KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. The two of them tilted the match towards them as they chased down the target easily.

The most anxious part of the match was when Virat Kohli was not out on 97 with just 1 run needed to win. Virat Kohli hits a six and simultaneously reached his hundred. The crowd celebrated this milestone as India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets, remaining at the second position of the points table.
