Benfica pile on Juventus’ misery, AC Milan get an easy win over Dinamo

(Football news) Two time European Champions Benfica fought back to secure a 2-1 win at Juventus with goals from Joao Mario and David Neres. The Portuguese side maintained their perfect start in Group H as it was a miserable night for Juventus, who have now subsequently  lost their opening two games of the Champions League group stage for the first time and have also lost three games in a row in Europe's elite club competition for the first time in 50 years. Juventus took the lead in the fourth-minute when Arkadiusz Milik climbed highest inside the box to head the ball into the bottom-left corner from a Leandro Paredes free kick.

Benfica had their first proper chance after 27 minutes when Neres crossed for Goncalo Ramos, who managed to head the ball right at Mattia Perin. As half-time started approaching, Benfica began controlling the possession as the pressure from Juventus eased. The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute after a VAR check when Juventus midfielder Fabio Miretti fouled Ramos inside the box and Mario equalised from the spot. Benfica maintained their momentum in the second half as Neres put them ahead in the 55th minute. Juventus pressed forward in the last 10 minutes but failed to draw the scores level.

"I already told the team these moments happen in football, we need to emerge from them as a team, with a sense of responsibility. We have an important game coming up against Monza and after that we can think about Europe. It will certainly be difficult, but not all is lost. I don't criticise the team, I understand the psychological situation. We've had some difficult moments and reacted, but conceding that penalty on the stroke of half-time, that was a real blow to morale. Football is difficult to explain, all we can say is that after going 2-1 down the game was over, we risked conceding 3-1 and 4-1" Allegri said.

AC Milan secured their first Champions League win this season after goals from Olivier Giroud, Alexis Saelemaekers and Tommaso Pobega got them to a 3-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb. Giroud opened the scoring from the spot in the first half with Saelemaekers and Pobega added two more after the half time break as Milan drew with Salzburg in their group opener.
The Serie A winners finally made their dominance count as Giroud dispatched a penalty on the stroke of halftime when Leao went down in the penalty box after a challenge from Josip Sutalo. Milan took their chances in the second half and were rewarded when Saelemaekers doubled their advantage with a thumping header following some excellent play down the left from talented Portuguese winger Leao.

Dinamo refused to go away with a challenge as they displayed the same grit that helped them topple Chelsea when they pulled one back through Mislav Orsic, who smashed home the ball past Mike Maignan at the 56th minute after being set up beautifully by Bruno Petkovic. Cortian  was a constant threat as the game wore on but Milan's attacking quality paid off when youngster Pobega combined with Theo Hernandez to put the final nail in the coffin for Dinamo.

"It's another positive step. I told my players we deserved to win a game in the Champions League. The fans deserve it. And we can do even better — not concede and score more,".Our performances depend on us, regardless of our opponents. Of course, against top teams we must raise the bar.It wasn't an easy match. We wanted to win playing our football and, with a bit more accuracy, we could have scored more goals," said Frenchman Giroud after scoring his fourth goal in all competitions this season. The Champions League is the best of competitions. We want to do well, and at least progress from the group" Milan boss Stefano Pioli told reporters
