(Football news) Granit Xhaka, 30, has left Arsenal after seven years and will now play for Bayer Leverkusen. The Swiss midfielder signs a five-year, €25 million contract with the German team.

On Thursday, July 6, Xhaka sent an emotional message for Arsenal supporters on his Instagram account following the announcement of his departure. Granit had left Borussia Monchengladbach to join Arsenal in 2016. He made 297 appearances for the team, contributing 29 assists and 23 goals.

Granit Xhaka, a Swiss midfielder who had served as captain, had a dispute with the team’s supporters. In 2019, he flung the captain’s armband and was on the verge of relocating as well.

However, Xhaka was persuaded to stay by manager Mikel Arteta, and the international from Switzerland became a vital member of the team last season. As the Gunners came close to Manchester City in the title race, he made 37 Premier League games and scored seven goals and provided seven assists.
