(Football news) James Rodriguez has left Everton FC to join Qatari club Al Rayyan for an undisclosed fee, after a falling out with the club as well as the manager. The move transpired as the Middle East transfer window is still open till the end of the month. Al Rayyan are currently 8th in the Qatari League and also had an abysmal AFC Champions league where they played India’s FC Goa as they finished last in the group.
James joined Everton in the summer of 2020 for 20 millions pounds from Real Madrid in a much hyped transfer. James shared a special relationship with Carlo Ancelotti as he was an integral part of the 2014 Real Madrid Champions League winning squad, then he followed him to Bayern Munich as he was there for a two year successful loan spell, before finally joining him in Everton last summer. Ever since his sudden departure to Real Madrid, James has felt like an expensive spare in a team whose game is completely based on hard running and well organised defence. The new manager Rafa Benitez had no use for him and Rodriguez is not only 30 but also the highest paid player in the clubs history earning 220K a week.
Ever since he joined the Premier League, James struggled with the physical side of the game as he was injury prone and also his workrate was not up to the required standards. Benitez arrived after a sudden appointment and he did not give a single opportunity to Rodriguez before sanctioning a sale for him, James bowed out after making 26 appearances and scoring 6 goals for Everton. The Everton hierarchy were trying to send him back to Porto in the summer window as the proposed swap deal for another Columbian Luis Diaz but failed on the final day of the transfer window.
