Russell Westbrook joins the Los Angeles Clippers

(Basketball news) Russell Westbrook is going to return to Los Angeles as he plans to return to sign with the LA Clippers, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Westbrook was waived off by the Utah Jazz on Monday as he became a free agent after he cleared his waivers. The former MVP was traded to the Jazz from the Los Angeles Lakers before the 2023 trade deadline. For him, it never really worked out in a Lakers uniform but he will be hoping that a change in jersey can help change his fortune and help the Clippers to their first NBA title.

In 54 games Westbrook is averaging 15.9 points, 7.5 assists, and 6.2 rebounds this season. The 34-year-old guard will join Kawhi Leonard in LA, along with All-Star Paul George, who Westbrook played with for two seasons in Oklahoma City. The Clippers (33-28) are currently 4th in the Western Conference standings and looking to make a late push for the top 2 spots in the conference.

In Tyronn Lue’s team, from which John Wall has already been traded, Westbrook lands to occupy a major role, mostly as a sixth man in the rotation. The former Thunder could make a stunning return to the starting five with Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. Adrian Wojnarowski also reported that discussions took place between the Bulls, the Wizards, and the Heat, but the point guard considered that it is with the Clippers that he had the best chance to get the NBA championship ring that he dreams of. Russell Westbrook has found the right fit and is set to add a new destination to his resume.

Another former Laker, Patrick Beverley plans to return to his hometown and sign with the Chicago Bulls, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The veteran guard was officially waived by the Orlando Magic on Feb.12, after he was included in a blockbuster four-team trade. Patrick Beverley is averaging 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists over 45 games this season. The Chicago native looks to join the duo of DeMar DeRozan and two-time All-Star Zach LaVine. The Bulls (26-33) are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference standings and currently are a place behind the 10th place seed which would mean they will be able to participate in the play-in tournament.
