(Football news) The Europa Conference League champions are said to have reached an agreement with the Saints to buy the 28-year-old midfielder for £30 million. Southampton first rejected West Ham’s £30 million deal last month, but have subsequently accepted their latest offer with better payment terms and conditions.

Ward Prowse would need to be registered by midday on Friday after completing his physical in order to be eligible for West Ham’s first Premier League game of the new season against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Ward Prowse has been looking for a way out of childhood club Southampton since they were demoted from the Premier League last season.

The England international has spent his entire professional career with the Saints, scoring 54 goals and contributing 53 assists in 408 games across all competitions since his debut in 2011. 

The dead-ball specialist, who has achieved legendary status at St Mary’s, set up Che Adams for the winning goal in Southampton’s 2-1 triumph against Sheffield Wednesday in their first game back in the Championship last Friday.

Meanwhile, West Ham appear to be trying to maintain offensive midfielder Lucas Paqueta despite interest from Manchester City, who are said to have turned down a verbal offer of between £60m and £70m from the Hammers.

Both clubs are supposed to be in talks, and West Ham are reportedly interested in obtaining forward Cole Palmer in exchange for Paqueta.
