According to a press release by New Zealand Cricket, Wellington Firebirds the defending men’s champions secured themselves a home finale in the Dream 11 Super Smash for the second successive year. The Firebirds trumped the Central Stags by an impressive 8 wicket win, who had won the toss and chose to bat first at the Basin River. A middle order mess costed the Stags their 2nd consecutive defeat, despite a fine finish by all rounder Dough Bracewell who also scored his 2nd T20 50 of the edition and his career, with an exhilarating 53* off 27 balls. The Stags’ put up a total of 164/7 to which Firebirds’ top order Finn Allen and Devon Conway replied with their brilliant 66 off 27 and 50 off 69. Conway finished off the inning in style with a six sealing the match with 3.4 overs remaining. The defeat now has added more pressure on the Central Stags to win their final league game in Napier on Friday, 5 February in order to ensure the qualification for 2 v 3 elimination final. The Dream 11 Super Smash Grand Final will be held on Saturday, 13 February 2021 at the Basin Reserve.
