(Cricket News) UP Warriorz secured a thrilling 1-run victory against the Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi. Deepti Sharma was the protagonist for the UP Warriorz, who led her team to victory with an all-round performance.
Opting to bat first, the UP Warriorz managed to score a below par score of 138 runs in their 20 overs. Except for Deepti, none of their other batter looked comfortable, as they kept on loosing wickets in frequent intervals. They suffered a blow in the second over itself, when Kiran Navgire was dismissed by Titas Sadhu. A 46-run stand between Deepti and Healy tried to steady the ship for the Warriorz, however their innings went downhill post the Healy’s dismissal.
Deepti Sharma held on end for her team, while she did not got any support from the other end. Grace Harris hung around for a brief 33-run partnership, but was dismissed by Radha Yadav. The lower middle order did not contribute. None of those batters managed to cross double digits. Deepti however ensured that the runs were flowing from one end, and single-handedly took her team to 138/8. She also brought up a wonderful half-century in the process.
Chasing the total, the skipper of Delhi Capitals, Meg Lanning did the bulk of the scoring. She scored a superb 60 run off just 46 balls. None of the other batters supported her significantly, however many of them got starts which helped Delhi reach close to the target.
Deepti after her efforts with the bat, showed her class with the ball as well, scalping a hattrick and turning the game on its head. She first dismissed Lanning on the last ball of the 14th over and then came on to ball when the Capitals needed just 14 off 12 balls, and scalped two wickets in the first two balls to register a hattrick.
The Capitals went on from 124/4 to 137/10 in a span of just 11 balls, gifting a win to the visitors by 1 run. Deepti was awarded with the Player of the Match award for her spectacular all-round display. This was the 3rd win of the season for the UP Warriroz and was a much needed one to keep their WPL hopes alive.
