(Football news) The Reds most recently defeated Leicester City 3-1 in the EFL Cup, while Tottenham Hotspurs most recently earned a point against fierce rivals Arsenal by drawing 2-2 at the Emirates last weekend.
Ange Postecoglou left enemy territory having guided Tottenham to a hard-earned point against Arsenal, who twice took the lead through a Cristian Romero own goal and a Bukayo Saka penalty. This is a feat that none of Antonio Conte, Jose Mourinho, or Nuno Espirito Santo managed during their disastrous tenures as Tottenham’s manager.
Romero’s second-half foul also gave Arsenal the early second-half penalties, which Saka converted. However, Son Heung-min saved Romero’s face on both occasions by scoring a brace with two assists from James Maddison to put an end to Spurs’ three-game losing record at the Emirates.
Although Son’s second goal was undoubtedly the result of luck, as Jorginho was robbed of the ball by Maddison while daydreaming, few would disagree that Postecoglou’s team deserved at least a share of the spoils in a typically chaotic derby. They also continued their recent trend of scoring at least twice in every Premier League game while Postecoglou was in charge.
