(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur has announced that Emerson Royal suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Brazil. He will have to undergo surgery and will miss at least 6 weeks of football. The injury is a massive blow to Tottenham Hotspur who already have a long list of long term absentees. The injury means that January signing Pedro Porro will get a long run of starts while Ivan Perisic could play more games at right wing back. Spurs have sacked Antonio Conte and his former assistant coach Cristian Stellini will take charge till the end of the season.

Emerson was criticized a lot for his performances last year but this year there has been an improvement. The right back has improved his overall game especially in attack as he has already scored 2 goals for Tottenham Hotspur this year. Now that is out of contention all eyes will be on Pedro Porro to perform and cement his place. Tottenham Hotspur are now fighting for a place in the top 4 which is very difficult but still achievable. Spurs will be hoping that Emerson can recover earlier to play some part towards the end of the season.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Hugo Lloris, Ryan Sessegnon, Yves Bissouma, Ben Davies and Richarlison are other players who are currently suffering injuries for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs will have to dig very deep in this last part of the season to qualify for next season’s Champions League. They have fixtures against Liverpool and Manchester United left while they also have tough matches against relegation threatened teams. It will be interesting to see how much Stellini’s tactics are different to that of Antonio Conte. Tottenham Hotspur fans have been demanding attacking football from the team and only time will tell if that can happen.
