(Football news) Leicester City on Saturday lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The game was Roy Hodgson’s first match since returning as Palace manager and the team got a boost by winning for the 1st time in 2023. The result is devastating for Leicester City as they are now 19th on the Premier League table. The relegation battle has heated up with as many as 9 teams in the race for survival. Leicester City have acted quickly by sacking Brendon Rodgers after 4 years incharge. Coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell will take charge of the team on interim basis.

Rodgers has been incredibly successful as manager of Leicester City. In his 3 full seasons incharge he finished 5th on the Premier League table twice and 8th once. Rodgers also won the FA Cup and the Community Shield during his time. His dismissal was inevitable as the results were not upto standard at all. A day after the sacking of Rodgers, Chelsea let go of Graham Potter. This means that the 12 Premier League managers have been sacked this season which is a record. Now both the clubs will be looking for a manager to take over.

Leicester City will be a little more desperate as they will face the drop if things don’t improve. Marcelo Bielsa is one of the top candidates to take over Leicester City. Graham Potter could also come in after being sacked by Chelsea recently. As for Rodgers he may be a candidate for the vacant job at Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur. The latter would make much more sense as Chelsea are eyeing Julian Nagelsmann. Rodgers could fit well at Tottenham Hotspur as he would make the most of limited resources.
