Suryakumar Yadav Set for Groin Surgery: What to Expect

(Cricket News) Suryakumar Yadav, the World No. 1 T20I men’s batter, had surgery on his groin on Wednesday in Munich. This is the second time that Surya has had surgery in recent times. The recovery from the groin or sports hernia operation, which is similar to what KL Rahul had in 2022, will likely take four to five weeks but may take longer in Surya’s case.

This most recent operation is on top of the ankle surgery he had after getting hurt during the Twenty20 International series in South Africa last month. According to insiders at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), he may be fit for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), which is scheduled to start in the final week of March, as well as the T20 World Cup in June.

The National Cricket Academy (NCA) had previously made similarly calculated calls to send Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and, of course, Rahul, who all returned fit for the World Cup held last October-November.

Surya was undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA before he flew to Munich on Tuesday. The NCA has made a few well-timed and perfectly-calibrated decisions to ensure that Surya, a key player for India’s chances in the World Cup, will be fully prepared before the June event.

The treatment plan for Suryakumar is different, though, since he recently had an ankle surgery. Late on Wednesday night, he posted a post-surgery picture. He is accompanied by wife Devisha. Generally speaking, hernia or groin surgery is not considered serious. In fact, people who undergo such surgeries are often allowed to jog from the second day onwards.
