(Cricket news) In a rain affected game at the SA20, the Johannesburg Super Kings registered a dominating 10-wicket victory over MI Cape town. JSK also gained a bonus point in the process. The match was reduced to 8-overs per side due to rain.
This is only the 2nd victory for the Super kings out of their 8 games, and it came at a crucial stage in the tournament where the team was desperately looking for a win. The Super kings skipper Faf Du Plesis finally found back his form after a string of low scores, as he scored a scintillating half century off just 20 balls.
Being put into bat MI Cape town managed to score only 43 in the powerplay. Rassie van der Dussen took 18 balls to make 16 before he was dismissed. The unwanted rain arrived after six overs, causing a tedious three-hour delay before play resumed. All thanks to the rain, this had to be an eight-over match.
Some massive blows from Pollard allowed MI to a good score of 80 in 8 overs. The revised target meant Super Kings needed 98 to win from eight overs. Chasing a difficult total, the Super kings came out all guns blazing. Leus Du Plooy and Faf Du Plesis smashed the Cape Town bowlers all over the park.
The two openers showed proper intent with rain arriving again. Due to the rain, Du Plessis was racing against time and wanted to close things off, and he did so with flair, hitting an undefeated 20-ball fifty. At the other end, Du Plooy hit an undefeated 41 off just 14 runs as the Super Kings, chased down the target in less than six overs.
Brief scores: MI Cape Town 80/3 (Kieron Pollard 33*; Imran Tahir 2/13) in 8 overs Joburg Super Kings 98/0 in 5.4 overs (Faf du Plessis 50*, Leus du Plooy 41*) JSK won by 10 wickets (DLS method)
