Sevilla set to play Celtas Vigo in La Liga

On Saturday evening, Celta Vigo and Sevilla, who have combined for just three La Liga victories this season, will face off in Spain's premier division at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos

(Football news) While Sevilla is in 14th place in the rankings with 10 points from their first 10 games, Celta has only managed to pick up six points from their 11 La Liga games this season, placing them in 18th place.

Rafael Benitez, who arrived as head coach of Celta over the summer, was an eye-catching managerial appointment, but the 63-year-old’s stint hasn’t gone well from the beginning.

As a result of their record of one victory, three draws, and seven losses in their first 11 games of the 2023–24 La Liga season, the Sky Blues have only accrued six points, standing in 18th place.

Celta did make it to the second round of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday night after defeating Turegano 4-0. However, they haven’t won a league match since early September, when they defeated Almeria 3-2 on the road.

After dropping their past two games against Girona and Atletico Madrid, Benitez’s club has now lost five of their last seven league games. They will face Athletic Bilbao away on Friday in another difficult match.

The past three La Liga games between Celta and Sevilla have ended in draws, but the Sky Blues haven’t triumphed over their rivals on Saturday in any competition since February 2020.

Sevilla, on the other hand, have struggled to get traction in the league this year, managing just 10 points from 10 games, and currently lie in 14th place in the standings.

After being named head coach on October 10, Diego Alonso has already coached in four games. In those games, he has one victory, two draws, and one loss.

Sevilla will go into this game fresh from a 3-0 Copa del Rey victory over Quintanar on Wednesday, although they were beaten to a 2-2 draw in the league by Cadiz the previous weekend.
