Olmo and Pau Victor Rejoin Barça

Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor have been re-registered with La Liga and are once again eligible to play for FC Barcelona.

After being dropped from La Liga’s registration, the two missed Barça’s Copa del Rey victory over Barbastro 0–4. However, they can now play in Sunday’s Super Cup final against Real Madrid or Real Mallorca.

The Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), the top sports council in Spain and a state organization, has made the decision, which is merely provisional. The CSD’s ruling overturns earlier rulings from two different courts, La Liga, and the Spanish Football Federation.

The rule that prohibits players from being registered to the same club twice in a single season is overruled by the preliminary ruling. In the case of Olmo and Pau Víctor, who were de-registered after La Liga rejected Barcelona’s explanation of their accounts, the club contended that the spirit of the rule was not designed for such circumstances.

Strict financial regulations are enforced by the league competition, which balances the amount of money clubs can spend on salaries and signings with the amount of money they generate. In order to demonstrate that the team once again had the margin to register the players, Barça hurried to sell VIP boxes in the future Camp Nou stadium for a price far lower than they believed they could have.

“The CSD considers that failure to adopt this precautionary measure would cause serious economic and sporting harm to the club and, above all, to the players,” the institution said in a statement. The interests of the Spanish national team and the other national competitions, such as La Liga, may also be harmed by this. With global attention and influence, FC Barcelona and its players are currently engrossed in the Spanish Super Cup, the season’s first official championship.

Next Tuesday, Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, will address a news conference to address questions about the sale of future VIP boxes and to explain the registration procedure that has been in place for the last ten days.

Olmo signed a €48 million contract with RB Leipzig to join the Catalan team last summer, but he was only granted temporary registration for the first half of the season due to Andreas Christensen’s long-term injury, which allowed the club to use the majority of his salary in other areas, specifically temporary registration of Olmo and Víctor.

Following a series of exchanges between the club and the league, the federation, and many courts of appeal, the CSD declared on Wednesday that they will look into the situation. For now, the players have been granted permission to play for Barcelona once more, but a final judgment will be made within the next three months.
