Ronaldo’s stunning goal keeps Al Nassr title hopes alive
Nassr's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo (R) celebrates with teammates their opening goal in the Saudi Pro League football match at the Mrsool Park in Riyadh

(Football news) A brilliant strike from Cristiano Ronaldo helped complete Al Nassr’s comeback from 2-0 down to secure a 3-2 win over Al Shabab as they kept their hopes of Saudi Pro League title alive. Al Nassr recovered well to level the game early in the second half and we saw a glimpse of vintage Ronaldo as he drove past two defenders before unleashing a powerful shot into the net from the edge of the penalty box to take a much deserved lead in the 59th minute.

It was Ronaldo’s 14th league goal in his 15 matches in the Saudi Pro League as he gave Al Nassr a vital win and kept them in the title race. Leaders Al Ittihad also won which means they are still 3 points above their arch rivals, keeping the title race alive going into the final two games of the season. It had looked like Al Nassr’s title hopes would be coming to a premature end when Al Shabab took a surprising 2-0 first-half lead through two goals as the Argentine midfielder Cristian Guanca scored from a penalty and then scored a banger to take a 2-0 lead.

Saudi Pro League top scorer Anderson Talisca started the comeback as he pulled a goal back with a first-time shot before half-time. Abdulrahman Ghareeb leveled the match in the 51st minute with a smooth finish from six yards before Ronaldo produced his magic to complete the victory. Al Nassr still has an outside chance of winning the title as Al Ittihad won 1-0 against Al Batin.

“The team played a fantastic game. Being behind 2-0 is very difficult but we believed till the end and we scored three goals,” Ronaldo told SSC TV.
