(Football news) Chelsea and Premier League rival Brighton have agreed a fee of £25 million ($32 million) plus add-ons for custodian Robert Sanchez, according to sources on Thursday.

Following the transfer of Edouard Mendy to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, Sanchez, who lost his starting spot to Jason Steele in the second half of last season, will provide competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

According to reports, the transfer will include a £25 million down payment and an additional sell-on clause. Sanchez, 25, previously worked with Chelsea goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts at Brighton. In September 2022, Roberts left for Stamford Bridge.

Following the club’s worst Premier League season in over 30 years, new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino is rebuilding his squad. Chelsea has also been linked with a move for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, with the Seagulls reportedly seeking a cost of £100 million.

Meanwhile, Brighton anticipates that Moises Caicedo will remain at the club when the transfer market shuts. So yet, no club has achieved their valuation, and they do not expect that to change.

Caicedo’s attitude is said to have impressed the club, and he is aware of the issue. On Wednesday, it was revealed that an undisclosed team approached Brighton about a possible transfer for the midfielder. Chelsea’s most recent proposal of £80 million was quickly rejected. Meanwhile, another insider believes Chelsea will re-enter the bidding war with a higher bid.

On August 13, it will kick off its new Premier League season at home against Liverpool.
