(Cricket News) Rinku Singh has been included in the India A squad for their second four-day match against England Lions, scheduled to commence on Wednesday. Rinku was previously part of the India A squad for the third four-day game against the Lions.

The official release from the Men’s Selection Committee stated, “The Men’s Selection Committee has added Rinku Singh to the India ‘A’ squad for the second four-day match against England Lions to be played in Ahmedabad from January 24.”

Having recently served as a reserve player for the India Test squad in South Africa, Rinku boasts a commendable record of 3099 runs in 43 first-class matches at an average of 58.47. He had previously featured in the India A squad during their tour of South Africa and also served as a substitute in the Indian dugout during the first Test in Centurion.

With Virat Kohli opting out of the first two games due to personal reasons, speculations arise about a potential replacement in the middle order. Rinku Singh, known for his impactful T20 performances, is being considered. His left-handed batting style, coupled with his role as a middle-order batsman for his state team, positions him favorably. However, the selection committee is yet to announce a replacement.

Reports suggest that two standout India ‘A’ performers, Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh and Sarfaraz Khan of Mumbai, are leading contenders to fill the void left by Kohli. Rajat Patidar, coming off a remarkable 151 against England Lions, has showcased his form in recent outings. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, known for his proficiency against spin, remains a viable option for the middle order on turning tracks.

The seasoned Cheteshwar Pujara, consistently delivering in first-class cricket, stands as a reliable choice if the selectors lean towards an experienced player.
