Real Madrid Vs Liverpool

(Football news) Real Madrid exactly what was expected as they got a 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabéu. The win meant that Los Blancos made it to the UCL quarter finals for the 3rd time in a row and for the 11th time in 13 years. Carlo Ancelotti started in his usual shape of 4-3-3 with Karim Benzema, Vinicius Jr and Fede Valverde up front.

Eduardo Camavinga who was called ‘Untouchable’ by Carlo Ancelotti started ahead of Aurélien Tchouaméni. There were talks about Real Madrid needing a more energetic midfield but Carlo Ancelotti played Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to bring control which worked really well. Rodrygo was on the bench along with Dani Ceballos and Marco Asensio.

Surprisingly Real Madrid didn’t defend deep and they were pretty attacking themselves. Liverpool were pressing very high early on but Los Blancos were often playing through that press and attacking on the counter. Real Madrid did lose the ball in their own half on a number of occasions but Liverpool weren’t clinical enough.

Antonio Rudiger had to make a couple of last ditch tackles and an interception while Thibaut Courtois also made a few good saves to keep it 0-0 going into half time. Liverpool failed to win enough 2nd balls as Madrid were trying just as hard to get the opening goal. The first 30 minutes of the game were end to end but then later on Madrid started to soak up the pressure.

The only goal of the match came in the 78th minute which sealed the game for Real Madrid. Eduardo Camavinga played a wonderful pass towards Karim Benzema who played a messy 1-2 with Vinicius Jr before scoring. He was limping after the goal and was subsequently taken off but Carlo Ancelotti said after the game that he will be fit for the El Clasico on the weekend.

Eduardo Camavinga was incredible throughout the game as he showed why he needs to play in midfield and not as left back. Vinicius Jr once again had Trent Alexander-Arnold in his back pocket throughout the game. The Englishman just couldn’t get the ball off him and was left for dead a couple of times. The quarter finals draw will take place on Friday where Real Madrid will find out their next opponents.
