Eduardo Camavinga needs to play in midfield all the time

Here’s why managers need to stop wasting Eduardo Camavinga's talent by playing him at left back
Eduardo Camavinga

(Football news) Eduardo Camavinga came to Real Madrid as a highly rated young midfielder. In his 1st season in Madrid, the Frenchman became Carlo Ancelotti’s go-to impact substitute. Camavinga played a massive role in comeback wins over PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City in the UCL. On the back of those performances, he was selected for France’s World Cup squad. When Lucas Hernandez was ruled out of the World Cup Didier Deschams made Camavinga a back up left back. He played a decent game in the group stages against Tunisia where the result didn’t affect France’s qualification.

In the World Cup final Eduardo Camavinga was subbed on as a left back when France were 2-0 down. He played a really good game out of position in the biggest match in world football. When Camavinga came back from the World Cup, Real Madrid started having injury issues which is why Carlo Ancelotti was forced to play the Frenchman at left back. Even though he was good in all those games is was crystal clear that he was much better in midfield. Over time if Eduardo Camavinga continues playing there he might become a world class left back but that would be a waste of his ability because he is already a world class midfielder.

There are reports that Camavinga will be called up for France’s Euro qualifiers as a left back. Both Didier Deschams and Carlo Ancelotti need to play him in midfield because his potential in that position is immense. The first thing Real Madrid has to do is sign a left back so that the manager isn’t forced to play Camavinga there. In yesterday’s UCL match against Liverpool, Eduardo Camavinga showed why he one of the most highly rated young players in the world. The more he plays in midfield the more growth he will show because he is still just 20 years of age.
