(Football news) The 32-year-old has made 31 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos this season, netting five goals and dishing out four assists. It’s a fantastic showing for the team.
Nevertheless, Carvajal’s contract at Bernabeu is set to end in June 2025, therefore if he doesn’t sign a new deal by January 2025, he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract with overseas teams.
The Spain international has stated that he is keen to stay on at Real Madrid, but he has also disclosed that no talks regarding an extension have taken place as of yet.
“At the moment we have not sat down to talk, it’s really easy with me. If you want to renew me, I am the first one who wants to extend the contract with the club,” he told.
Carvajal has been with Real Madrid since 2002, progressing through the various age groups at the club before making his debut for Real Madrid B in 2010.
The right-back joined Bayer Leverkusen in July 2012, but he only spent one season with the German outfit, as Real Madrid exercised a buy-back option to re-sign him for the 2013-14 campaign.
Carvajal has made 406 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions, winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, four Spanish Super Cups, five Champions Leagues, four UEFA Super Cups and five Club World Cups during a highly-successful career.
“We have only lost one La Liga match, we are in the Champions League quarter-finals, it was a shame about Copa del Rey but we won the Super Cup. On the way back from the break we have a pretty key match against Athletic,” the defender added when asked about Real Madrid’s campaign.
“With nine games left, it’s eight points of advantage, we receive Barcelona in our stadiums… we want to win that game and extend the lead.”
Carvajal was also asked about Kylian Mbappe potentially arriving at Bernabeu, with the France international widely expected to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
“They haven’t told us anything. It seems that it is a possibility that he can come. In Madrid, the best have to come and he is one of the best. For the league and our football, it would be good, just like [Robert] Lewandowski has gone to Barcelona,” he added.
“No jealousy [if Mbappe arrives at the club], but the people who have been in the club for the longest time are in charge of everyone rowing in the same direction; that when one derails a little, grab him by the ear and put him on the track of our train.”
