Real Madrid agree deal to sell Takefusa Kubo to Real Sociedad for €6.5m

(Football news) Real Sociedad have officially completed the signing of Takefusa Kubo from Real Madrid. According to reliable reports, the final fee was finalized at €6.5m for 50% of the player's rights. What that means is that Kubo will play for Real Sociedad but Madrid will have some control over his future. Real Madrid could buy back Kubo anytime they want and will also get some percentage of any future sales. There were several other Spanish clubs who were interested in the Japanese attacker but Sociedad have managed to secure his signature.

Real Madrid signed Kubo for free back in 2019 from Japanese club FC Tokyo. Kubo was a renowned player in Barcelona's La Masia academy but he later left for Japan. Barcelona wanted to sign Kubo in 2019 but Real Madrid managed to lure him to the Bernabéu. Since then the player hasn't made a single appearance for Los Blancos. He has had 4 different loan spells at 3 different clubs. Even if Real Madrid wanted to keep Kubo it wouldn't be possible currently because of passport issues. La Liga allows each club to have only three players with non-European passports. Currently the spots are occupied by Eder Militao, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo. After COVID, the process of acquiring a Spanish passport has slowed down significantly which is why clubs are facing problems and Real Madrid for the same reason couldn't try to sign Gabriel Jesus.

Kubo is a playmaker who can play on either wing. He has quick feet and can create goal scoring opportunities for his teammates. Kubo will be competing with the likes of Mikel Oyarzabal and Adnan Janzaj for a starting spot. La Real have already signed Brais Mendez, Roberto Lopez and Mohamed-Ali Cho in this window. Real Sociedad finished 6th in La Liga last season and this time around they will want to claim a top 4 finish. As for Kubo, he will be hoping to get regular game time. He is still only 21 years of age and has got ample time to develop his game. The winger may still have a future at Real Madrid if he performs well for Sociedad.
