(Cricket news) Ravichandran Ashwin was the talk of the town when India didn’t include him from the World Test Championship final playing XI. India ended up losing that match after a very lackluster performance. The men in blue have bounced back with an emphatic win against the West Indies at Dominica. India managed to win by an innings and 141 runs inside 3 days against a very timid-looking West Indian side. Yashasvi Jaiswal was named the player of the match for his brilliant innings of 171 on his debut. However, it was Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling effort that allowed India to completely dominate the game.
In the first innings, Ravichandran Ashwin took 5 wickets with an economy of just 2.45. In the second innings, he was almost unplayable as he picked up 7 wickets. He overtook James Anderson to claim the 6th spot in the list of most five-wicket hauls in the history of Test cricket. The off-spinner was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja at the other end who also picked up 5 wickets. Ashwin in the process also equalled Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally of six 12-wicket hauls in a Test match cricket. Ravichandran Ashwin has well and truly bounced back and showed his quality.
Now moving forward India may be even more careful of dropping him because he has been consistently doing the job with the ball. Even on a pitch where there isn’t much help, he usually holds up an end. Now India will be looking to seal the series in the second and final match at the Queen’s Park Oval. India are likely to play the same eleven unless the pitch is a little flatter in which case Mukesh Kumar may get a go ahead of Shardul Thakur. The match is very crucial for India as World Test Championship points are on the line.
