Punjab FC, the current holders of the I-League championship, revealed their participation in the Indian Super League (ISL) starting from the forthcoming 2023-24 season, thus expanding the tournament to comprise 12 teams.
Having clinched the I-League title and effectively satisfying the requirements of the ICLS Premier 1 Licensing, the club secured a position in the highest division of Indian football.
This achievement makes Punjab FC the pioneer among Indian clubs in achieving promotion from the I-League to the ISL.
Punjab FC demonstrated exceptional prowess throughout the 2022-23 I-League season, asserting their dominance and clinching the leading position on the points table.
Exhibiting remarkable abilities and unwavering commitment, the team secured victory in 16 matches, achieved draws in four encounters, and encountered only two losses. The team’s tally of 45 goals underscored their prowess on the field.
