(Football news) It will be a clash of the titans as Liverpool welcome Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday with plenty on the line. The Red Devils are technically in the running for the Premier League title while Liverpool are fighting for a potential top 4 finish with defeat for either side being a big blow for their ambitions. Jurgen Klopp’s side defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in their last match while Manchester United overcame West Ham 3-1 in the FA Cup. Liverpool have been woefully inconsistent this season but a match against their arch rivals is not about form but about who performs on the day and with the fans behind them, the Reds will be confident of their chances.

Liverpool at Anfield are a force to be reckoned with, losing just one of their last 35 games and taking 13 points from 15 and keeping clean sheets in their most recent three matches. As for Manchester United, they remain the only English team to remain in every competition so far and have shown drastic improvement under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have already won the Carabao Cup this season and momentum is on their side and have scored at least twice in each of their last 12 games across all competitions, taking 23 points since the Premier League resumed after the World Cup, the most by any team. However, they have also conceded more Premier League goals (20) than they have scored (17) away from home this season and have a poor record against the Big 6 teams away from home.

In team news for Liverpool, Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, Joe Gomez and Calvin Ramsay won’t be available for selection while Arthur Melo is still building on his fitness and is a doubt. Cody Gakpo could feature in the starting lineup instead of Diogo Jota while veterans Andrew Robertson and Jordan Henderson could also be selected over Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas. As for Manchester United, Anthony Martial, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen are unavailable but Jadon Sancho and Luke Shaw are back in contention. Erik ten Hag is expected to go with his trusted lieutenants in the starting lineup.

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst
