Premier League leaders Arsenal visit Brentford to consolidate top spot

(Football news) Arsenal will visit the Brentford Community Stadium on Sunday with a win consolidating their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Both teams head into this fixture after winning their previous matches, with Brentford defeating Leeds United 5-2 and the Gunners overcoming FC Zurich 2-1 in the UEFA Europa League. A victory for the hosts in their last match ended their three game winless run in the league and the team are currently 9th, level on points with Liverpool.

Brentford have been surprisingly prolific at home so far, scoring 10 of their 15 goals at the Brentford Community Stadium. Only Manchester City with 20 goals have scored more times than Brentford and Mikel Arteta will be wary of the hosts heading into this fixture. Fixtures have been postponed due to Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, which means Arsenal have a congested October ahead due to a number of delayed fixtures being accommodated for the next month. It’s fair to say that this is a must-win game for Arsenal, as they could potentially drop to third if Manchester City and Tottenham win while the Gunners fail to secure the three points.

In team news, Brentford’s Christian Norgaard and Ethan Pinnock remain unavailable for selection but Sergi Canos is expected to feature for Thomas Frank’s side on Sunday. Josh Dasilva could make a start against his former club but Frank Onyeka is another player that could be selected instead of Shandon Baptiste. As for Arsenal, Thomas Partey is back in training but could be named on the bench. The likes of Reiss Nelson and Mohamed Elneny will be absent while Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Cedric Soares (knock) are also doubtful. Oleksandr Zinchenko has picked up a fresh muscular problem and will be out for two weeks which means Kieran Tierney will feature at left-back.
