Manchester United’s veterinarian midfielder provides transfer update

According to Christian Eriksen, he has "yet to hear anything" from Manchester United on his future
Manchester

(Football news) The Denmark international’s contract at Old Trafford is due to expire next summer, and it is unclear whether he is in the plans of new Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim moving forward.

Eriksen was heavily linked with a departure during the recent transfer window, with Manchester United believed to have made him available for transfer, but he stayed with the 20-time English champions.

The 32-year-old has been in strong form this season, scoring four goals and registering three assists in 13 appearances, and he bounced back from an injury to feature off the bench against Leicester City last weekend.

Eriksen is close to entering the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford, though, and the midfielder has revealed that he has not yet been approached by Manchester United to discuss a possible extension.

Eriksen could leave Manchester United on a free transfer next summer

“I haven’t focused on it yet, and I haven’t heard anything from the club,” Eriksen told reporters while on international duty with Denmark. “Right now it’s just about football, and then we have to see where we stand in January and, for that matter, in the summer.

“As a footballer, you just turn up and train, and then it is the coach who decides the team at the weekend. I have not set my hopes or expectations. It belongs to football.”

Eriksen will meet with new Manchester United head coach Amorim next week once he has returned from international duty, but the midfielder is unlikely to be in the starting XI for the Premier League clash with Ipswich Town on November 24.

The Dane made the move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022 off the back of an impressive spell at Brentford, and he has made 85 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring seven goals and registering 16 assists in the process.

Which other Manchester United players are out of contract next summer?

Amad Diallo, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, and Tom Heaton are also out of contract next summer.

Lindelof is widely expected to leave, while Evans, despite again proving his worth this season, could also depart on a free transfer, potentially to make the transition into coaching.

Another one-year deal for number three goalkeeper Heaton cannot be ruled out, while it would not be a surprise to see a 12-month extension activated in Maguire’s contract, with a free transfer for the Englishman next summer seen as unlikely.

Amad, though, is expected to soon be handed a new long-term contract at Old Trafford; the 22-year-old has impressed of late, scoring twice against PAOK in the Europa League last week before coming up with an assist in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
