(Football news) The visitors are in fifth place, two points behind second-place Czech Republic, while the hosts are at the bottom of the group having only gained one point from five games. The fact that the Faroe Islands are currently seven points behind second place with three games remaining suggests that they have missed their opportunity to qualify for a big international event, something they have never done before.

Securing a spot in the tournament was always going to be difficult for a country with only 52,000 citizens, and the only accomplishment they can claim from their qualification process thus far is a point.

Since then, they have failed to score any more points. In March, Hakan Ericson’s team drew 1-1 away against Moldova, with a late equalise by Ion Nicolaescu cancelling out Mads Mikkelsen’s first-half goal.

Faroe Islands have lost their last five games in a row in all competitions, scoring just two goals in the process. As a result, it is currently highly improbable that they will be able to qualify for Euro 2024.

With six points from their first five Group E games, Poland, on the other hand, have a much better chance of making it to the tournament for the fourth time in a row.

Though the Eagles are currently four points behind Albania in first place and two points behind second place, they are perhaps a little unhappy with their performance thus far.

Due to losses to the Czech Republic, Moldova, and Albania, Michal Probierz’s team has had an especially poor road record. They have lost all three of their away games thus far.

The last time Poland played, they journeyed to Tirana to play Albania. Despite this, they did not show any offensive danger, managing only one shot on goal the whole time and losing 2-0.

In spite of this, the Eagles should be confident going into Thursday’s match because they defeated the Faroe Islands 2-0 in the rematch, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a brace.
