(Football news) Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech will leave his role as Technical and Performance Advisor at Chelsea on June 30th following the Todd Boehly-Clearlake takeover. Earlier this month, chairman Bruce Buck and director Marina Granovskaia also announced their departures with Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly taking over as chairman and interim sporting director. Cech was appointed by Roman Abramovich three years ago to provide assistance and guidance on football and performance related matters at Chelsea after representing the club 333 times.
Speaking about his imminent departure, Cech said “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch." Todd Boehly, chairman and co-controlling owner, said: "Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best."
With the imminent departure of Granovskaia, who will stay on to help Boehly this transfer window, Chelsea have set their sights on former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards with Boehly referencing Liverpool as a "great model" for success. Edwards has been instrumental in Liverpool’s success under Jurgen Klopp and departed from the Merseyside club this summer after 11 years. The 42 year old has already been approached by Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but with the latter having already appointed Luís Campos, the Blues have a realistic chance of getting their man.
