(Football news) West Ham have reached an agreement with PSG over an £8m permanent deal for Areola. Areola, 29, was on loan at the east London club from PSG during the 2021-22 season and he went on to make 17 appearances in all competitions. West Ham activated an option to buy which was worth around £8 million as they chose to buy him over the alternative of a further loan.
Areola was a man in demand as he had received interest from Newcastle and former club Fulham this summer, but the Magpies ultimately went for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope. The France international was David Moyes’ number one goalkeeper in West Ham’s run to the Europa League semi-finals. Despite being the second goalkeeper to Lukasz Fabianski, Areola kept eight clean sheets in 16 appearances, including an impressive performance during a 2-0 victory over Sevilla in the Europa League last 16. Areola has had loan spells at both Real Madrid and Fulham but now finally moves away from PSG where he hardly got any game time. West Ham face a difficult start to the Premier League season when they take on the Champions Manchester City on August 7 at the London Stadium.
West Ham have already made the signing Nayef Aguerd from Rennes as Alphonse Areola becomes the clubs second transfer this summer window. West Ham United are also interested in signing Armando Broja from Chelsea this summer. The Hammers are looking for a new centre-forward to give Antonio some competition and have identified the Albanian as a potential option. With Chelsea yet to finalise the future of the youngster, there is a chance that he could move across London but Newcastle United are also pushing to sign the forward this summer. West Ham are also interested in signing some wingers as they have already offered Jesse Lingard a contract and are reportedly interested in Villarreal winger Danjuma. The Hammers are going to lose Mark Noble, Andriy Yarmolenko, Ryan Fredericks and David Martin this summer and David Moyes needs to find able replacements ahead of next season.
