West Ham make an offer to free agent Jesse Lingard

(Football news) After a successful loan spell at the London Stadium, former Manchester United player Jesse Lingard could rejoin West Ham this summer after the club made an offer to the player’s representatives. During his first stint with the Hammers, Lingard scored nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances and was keen to make his move permanent but Manchester United blocked the move. His return to Old Trafford was disappointing to say the least, scoring only two goals in 22 appearances, predominantly as a substitute.

The player has been at Manchester United since the Under-9’s, progressing through the youth system before making his debut in 2014 under former manager Louis Van Gaal. In the eight years since, Lingard has made 232 appearances, scoring 35 goals. Lingard’s most important contribution at the club was the three goals he scored in Cup finals but somehow never managed to consolidate his place in the starting XI. His parent club has already announced that Lingard will be departing as a free agent once his contract expires on July 1st and as things stand, West Ham are the most likely destination for the 29 year old.

It’s important for the player to hit the ground running at his next club, especially if Lingard wants a place in the England squad for the 2022 World Cup. Newcastle United were another club touted as a possible destination for the 29 year old but cooled off their interest due to the hefty wage demands by the player. As for West Ham, the London based club have already signed Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for £30 million and are on the verge of signing goalkeeper Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain. Manager David Moyes is looking to strengthen his side and push for a potential Champions League finish.
