(Cricket news) Bancroft recently informed Perth of his intention to join Sydney Thunder ahead of the 2023-24 KFC Big Bash League season.

A reliable right-handed opener, Bancroft experienced his best season in Orange during Perth’s triumphant BBL|12 campaign, tallying 357 runs at 51 (strike rate 140) from 11 innings. The 30-year-old struck a career-high T20 score of 95 not out from 50 deliveries against Melbourne Renegades at Optus Stadium in January, scoring some firing half-centuries against Brisbane Heat, the Thunder, and Sydney Sixers.

Bancroft marked up 1,595 runs in 68 games for Perth between 2015 and 2023, placing him third on the Club’s all-time list for runs scored and sixth for games played. Having been part of several championship squads, Bancroft celebrated his first MBBL title in February when Perth triumphed over Brisbane Heat during a thrilling final at Optus Stadium. Therefore on Bancroft’s departure, Perth Scorchers General Manager – High-Performance Kade Harvey backed Cameron and said: “Cameron made a significant contribution during his time with the Scorchers, performing a variety of roles with the bat while upholding exceptionally high standards in the field.

“He played a particularly important part in last season’s MBBL championship through excellent performances at the top of the order and as a leader within the group, on and off the field. “Although losing a player of Cameron’s calibre is never ideal, we are comfortable with our depth of local talent, while the upcoming international draft will provide us with another opportunity to improve our list.”
