In the game against Red Star Belgrade, Pau Cubarsí’s center defense sustained a severe facial injury.
The injury happened after Uroš Spajić, a Serbian player, tried to hit the ball in the 63rd minute and the Spaniard tried to clear it with his head. Cubarsí was bending over when he was accidentally kicked in the face, which caused a large amount of blood to flow.
His teammates on the field became alarmed by this situation right away, and they promptly requested that the 17-year-old player be substituted and called for medical assistance.
Although a close-up of the FC Barcelona central’s face was not shown during the live television broadcast, his teammates’ reactions suggested that the injury might be serious.
Following initial medical attention on the field, Cubarsí walked off the field by himself, covered in blood, and went to the locker room to receive additional care from the club’s physician. The physician later stated that 10 stitches were required to seal the gash on the player’s jaw that resulted from the event.
While Cubarsí was being treated in the locker room, his teammate Sergi Domínguez replaced the Catalan football player and played the rest of the game.
The team is still unsure if the player will be able to play in the upcoming Champions League encounter, despite the fact that the injury does not pose a life-threatening risk or jeopardize his health.
Videos and images posted on social media indicate that Pau Cubarsí is doing well and is still in a positive frame of mind. He hopes to start again for Barça in their next match.
FC Barcelona defeated Red Star by five goals in spite of the incident, and they are now only three points behind league leaders Liverpool.
