Paris Saint-Germain amongst one of the eight clubs fined by UEFA

(Football news) European governing body UEFA have fined Paris Saint-Germain along with seven other clubs for breaching Financial Fair Play rules. The French club have been ordered to pay 10m euros (£8.6m) for their failure to comply with "break-even" rules and could potentially pay 65m euros (£56.3m) depending on whether they will comply in the future. According to the FFP regulations, clubs are ordered to not spend more than the income they generate and must balance their books every three years.

UEFA has also told 19 other clubs including Chelsea, Leicester, Manchester City, West Ham and Rangers that they will be “monitored closely” in the coming years. The other seven clubs that have been fined by the governing body are AC Milan, Inter Milan, Roma, Juventus, Besiktas, Marseille and Monaco. All the clubs will pay a combined minimum fee of 26m euros (£22.5m) which could rise up to 172m euros (£149m). The clubs can either pay these fines directly or they will be deducted from the revenue they earn from participation in UEFA competitions.

Moreover, the clubs will be forced to pay more unless they comply with the targets set by UEFA in their settlement agreements. The aim of the agreement framework is to ease the transition between Financial Fair Play regulations from 2018 and the newly approved regulations that will be implemented in 2023. The other 19 clubs that are being monitored have managed to fulfill the break even requirements but UEFA have requested them to provide additional financial information in order to monitor them closely.
