(Cricket news) A sub par performance by hosts Bangladesh saw them slump to an innings and 8 runs defeat to Pakistan in the last match of the tour. Bangladesh lost all the five matches which included 3 T20s and two tests, only one match was played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium while the rest was at Shere Bangla National Stadium.
The second test was largely affected by rain at the start as Pakistan batted for two days for a score of 300/4 and there was no play on day 3. On day 4, Bangladesh came out to bat but were bundled out for 87 with spinner Sajid Khan taking 8 wickets in his fourth test match and Shaheen Afridi taking the only other wicket as Mominul Haque was run out by Hasan Ali. Bangladesh only needed to score 100 runs in the first innings to avoid the follow on as Shakib Al Hasan top scored with 33 but it was not enough to see them through.
In the follow on, Bangladesh’s line up was torn apart by pacers Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali as the top four were sent back in the first 9 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das stood for a while as it seemed Pakistani bowlers lost their magic touch. Sajid Khan again provided the big wicket as Liton Das walked back to the pavilion as it brought Shakib into the crease who again stood with the team as they desperately wanted the match to end in a draw.
The next breakthrough came when Mushfiqur's bad luck struck as he was run out by opener Abdullah Shafique’s quick throw to keeper Mohammad Rizwan. Mehidy Hasan walked in as the score was 147-8 as he played a defensive knock but his wicket led to another blunder from the team. The last four wickets fell for seven runs as Bangladesh could only score 205 and Sajid Khan finished with 12 wickets. It was the spinners first five wicket haul and also a maiden 10 wicket haul.
The second innings of Bangladesh saw Mushfiqur, Liton Das, Shakib and Mehidy play 417 balls and score 170 runs as they showed true test batting skills while the rest of the team could not gather support. Bangladesh could have saved the match if their top order could contribute as much as half of what the middle order did to bring the team to this result. A few more overs and the match would have been a draw as for Pakistan it was a standout performance by Sajid Khan as the team had less time left but managed to take wickets well before the day was over.
Pakistan’s Abid Ali finished as the leading run scorer in the two test matches with 263 runs and was also awarded the man of the series award. Sajid Khan finished as the leading wicket taker with 18 wickets and was the man of the match for his excellent bowling performance. Liton Das finished as the leading run scorer for Bangladesh with 224 runs and Taijul Islam finished as the top bowler for the side with 10 wickets.
