Osasuna end Real Madrid’s win streak; Barcelona & Atlético get wins

(Football news) Atletico Madrid won 2-0 away at Sevilla to pile the pressure on Julen Lopetegui. Diego Simeone lined up in a changed 4-1-4-1 system with Joao Felix and Yannick Carrasco on the bench. Axel Witsel was relocated to midfield while Matheus Cunha played on the left wing. Koke became the most capped Atletico Madrid player and marked it with an assist to Marcos Llorente's opening goal. Morata doubled the lead in the 57th minute as the match ended 2-0. Sevilla are now just 1 point of relegation which is a big upset. Lopetegui's job is under the scanner and it will be a big surprise if the Spaniard is still in-charge of Sevilla in their UCL clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday.

Barcelona got a professional 1-0 win away at Mallorca. Xavi had to accommodate Alex Balde at right back while Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso were benched as was Eric Garcia. Ansu Fati and Franck Kessie got a start as Raphinha and Pedri were rested for the game. Robert Lewandowski's incredible strike in the 20th minute was enough to get the 3 points for the Catalan club. It was Lewandowski's 9th goal in the La Liga and 12th in all competitions as he continued his incredible start at Barcelona. 15 minutes after conceding Mallorca came close to scoring the equalizer via Jaume Costa but his effort was straight at Marc Andre Ter Stegen. Mallorca had just 28% possession but it was more meaningful than that of Barcelona. The hosts threatened to get the equalizer a lot of times but couldn't test Ter Stegen enough.

Real Madrid's win streak in the new season ended at 9 as they drew 1-1 against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu. This was the 2nd season in a row where Osasuna took a point from the Bernabéu after a gutsy performance. Carlo Ancelotti started with Fede Valverde and Eder Militao on the bench. Andriy Lunin started in goal as Thibaut Courtois picked up an injury in training. Real Madrid dominated possession throughout the game but were very naive in front of goal. Los Blancos did take the lead just before half time as Vinicius Jr's cross turned into a shot that goalkeeper that Sergio Herrera couldn't stop. Osasuna equalized in the 50th minute with a brilliant header from Kike Garcia. Karim Benzema won a penalty in the 78th minute as David Garcia was sent off. Herrera had saved two penalties from Benzema in the same game last season and he did the same as the Frenchman's spot kick hit the crossbar. Benzema hasn’t been able to have the impact that he did last season so far and Madrid have finally suffered because of it. The Merengues are now level on points with FC Barcelona just 2 weeks before El Clasico.
