Here’s why Joao Cancelo will be the perfect fit for Real Madrid

(Football news) Real Madrid are always linked with the top players in Europe and the latest one is Joao Cancelo. The Portuguese full back has been an important player for Manchester City since his move from Juventus in 2019. Real Madrid have Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez as right back options but the latter is not a natural right back plus he is a back rather than a competition. At left back, Real Madrid do have Ferland Mendy and David Alaba but the Austrian is much more comfortable at centre back while the Frenchman's attacking game just isn't good enough.

Having a versatile player like Cancelo would be a massive addition to Real Madrid. He is 19 years old and is in his prime. The attacking threat he will bring from the full back spot would add a different dimension to Real Madrid. Real Madrid often struggle to break down teams that park the bus. One of the reasons is that Vinicius is a unique winger that rarely cuts inside which means that the left back can rarely overlap. Whenever Mendy or Alaba play on the inside they don't have enough options because they are left footed. If it was Joao Cancelo who played left back then he would be more than comfortable to cut inside on his right foot. A combination of Vinicius and Cancelo would be a deadly one while at right back the Portuguese will be just as good if not better.

The big problem with the deal is that it won't be cheap as Cancelo has a contract with Manchester City that runs till 2027. City aren't the kind of club that would force players to stay against their will but they will not let him go without getting the right price. Convincing Cancelo will also not be easy as he looks at home in Manchester. He will be getting an opportunity to play at Real Madrid which only happens once in a lifetime for a player. The operation will definitely cost Real Madrid a lot but they are financially very sound. Los Blancos haven't really spent big money in a transfer window since 2019 and that could happen next year.
