New Zealand defeat Bangladesh by an innings and 117 runs to level series

(Cricket news) After losing the first Test, New Zealand came back to register a mammoth victory against Bangladesh by an innings and 117 runs. Skipper Tom Latham was named player of the match for his splendid innings of 252. 

 

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first. Tom Latham's 252 led New Zealand to a total of 521/6 declared. Devon Conway scored 109 to follow the 122 he scored in the last game while Will Young and Tom Blundell scored half centuries. Shoriful Islam and Ebadot Hossain picked up 2 wickets while captain Mominul Haque chipped in with a scalp. 

 

In reply Bangladesh could only manage 126 runs as it was the Trent Boult show. Tim Southee picked up 3 wickets while Kyle Jamieson got 2 dismissals but Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 5 for 43. Yasir Ali (55) and Narul Hasan (41) were the only batters to reach double figures. With a lead of 395, Latham enforced the follow on to try and bowl out Bangladesh.

 

Bangladesh were bowled out for 278 runs as New Zealand won the game in just 3 days. Liton Das scored a gritty century but no other batter could provide adequate support. Kyle Jamieson picked up 4 wickets while getting 3 important scalps. Tim Southee and Daryl Mitchell chipped in with a wicket each while Ross Taylor in the final game of his career picked up the last wicket and won the game for New Zealand. 

 

The series ended in a 1-1 draw which is a very big result for Bangladesh. They are 7th on the WTC points table while New Zealand jumped to the 6th spot. The Kiwis will now prepare for the 3 ODIs and a T20I in Australia while Bangladesh will play 3 ODIs and a Test in South Africa.
