Maxwell opens up on the alcohol-related incident

(Cricket news) The star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, fell unconscious after being drunk at an Adelaide pub on the 19th of January. Maxwell went to The Governor Hindmarsh Hotel where ex-cricket star Brett Lee’s band performed and fell unconscious prompting an ambulance to be called.

“I think probably it affected my family a little bit more than it affected me. I knew I had that week off. And obviously that incident was less than ideal, and the timing,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by the ‘Australian Associated Press’. “But I had that week (during which the incident took place) off, I knew I had that week off away from the game,” he said.

Maxwell made the fastest T20I century on Australian soil on Sunday in a win against the West Indies scoring 120 off just 55 balls including 8 maximums and showed that he remains Australia’s most dangerous batter in the shorter formats.

Cricket Australia (CA) opened an investigation into the event, and as a result, Maxwell was not included in the ODI series against the West Indies. Subsequently, head coach Andrew McDonald also insisted the Australian giant “to hold up his end of the bargain” and “take care of himself”. “He needs to obviously have a look at what he’s doing at his end and is that the right thing to be doing at that time?” McDonald had stated.

Maxwell thanked Cricket Australia for their constant help and the support of McDonald, chair of selectors George Bailey and others in the aftermath of the incident. “The coach, Bails, everyone really, they have been outstanding,” he said after making 120 not out from 55 balls against West Indies.

Maxwell also mentioned that he moved on quickly from the mishap that happened in Adelaide. “I just moved on pretty quickly. I was back in training on Monday so I was pretty good.
