(Football news) Marcus Rashford has reached an agreement in principle to sign a new five-year contract with Manchester United, where he intends to dedicate his long-term future.

Prior to his current contracts expiring in 2024, the 25-year-old English forward has been in negotiations with United for a sizable amount of time. Any ambiguity, though, will be eliminated once Rashford signs a new contract, which is currently being negotiated between the club and his agent Dwaine Maynard and extends until 2028.

Rashford turned down more lucrative offers from teams in England and Europe in order to remain at United, where he has always hoped to win prestigious awards. This comes at the beginning of a week that should also see the Old Trafford team finalise the acquisition of Inter Milan custodian Andre Onana before departing on Wednesday for their summer tour of the United States.

Marcus Rashford’s current deal was slated to end next summer after he exceeded the 30-goal threshold for the first time in his United career last year. The England international has reportedly agreed to terms for a contract extension through 2028, and an official announcement is expected as soon as Tuesday.

In the 2022–23 season, Rashford demonstrated his significance to United by regaining his form and scoring 30 goals in 56 games across all competitions and four goals in seven for England. He started playing for United when he was seven years old, and since graduating from their academy, he has scored 123 goals in 359 senior appearances.

Additionally, under manager Erik ten Hag, the attacker helped United win the FA Cup in 2016, the League Cup, Europa League, and another League Cup, as well as qualification for the Champions League, last season.

In addition to Rashford’s contract extension, Manchester United is nearing a deal to bring keeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan to Old Trafford. The Cameroonian international, who previously played for Erik ten Hag at Ajax, is being considered as a possible David De Gea replacement.

As talks move forward, Onana’s arrival could soon follow Rashford’s contract agreement, strengthening United’s roster for the forthcoming campaign. He will be a fantastic addition to this Manchester United team that has a powerful appearance.
