(Football news) Real Madrid’s dynamic midfield duo of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are all set to play their tenth season together. The pair together have won four UEFA Champions Leagues, three La Liga’s and one Copa Del Rey.

When Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 having just won the World Cup, Luka Modric was already an established player with Los Blancos. The two settled in really well and with the addition of Casemiro formed one of the greatest midfield trios of all time. Fede Valverde and Isco also joined forces for a time being and Casemiro left last season but Kroos and Modric have been a constant.

There have been times before when it looked like the last of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric but they always manage to bounce back. The pair extended their contracts till 2024 earlier this year but this season could well be their last one together. Luka Modric reportedly told Arda Guler that he is going to retire at the end of the 2023/24 season after which he can have the number 10. The job of both Modric and Toni Kroos would be to pass on the baton this season.

Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Dani Ceballos are all set to take over Real Madrid’s midfield for many years to come. This season Luka Modric in particular is expected to play a lot less but that has been said many times before and everytime he has put in performances that make him undroppable.

A lot of Real Madrid’s recent success has been because of the dominance of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. This season it is important for the team that they act as mentors and leaders in the dressing room. Modric is the vice captain of the club while Kroos is the fourth captain which is an added responsibility.

The one thing which is expected to be a rare occurrence this season is the two veterans playing together. In big games Real Madrid will need more legs which the youngsters have. Carlo Ancelotti is also planning on playing a new system which could affect things. Both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are already legends of Real Madrid; they would be looking to end their career with the club on a high.
