(Football news) Attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Marseille of Ligue 1 and Chelsea is persuaded by the proposal that has been presented to him. The search for a binding deal is still ongoing.

Marseille is continuing their summer transfer window operations after Atlético Madrid’s Geoffrey Kondogbia and Renan Lodi’s arrivals. After Alexis Sánchez left on a free transfer, they are now looking to sign a centre-forward.

After new manager Marcelino made it clear that he did not think the former Manchester United and Arsenal forward’s style was best suited to the tactical direction the Spaniard wishes to take the club in, OM subtly withdrew the contract extension offer to the Chilean international.

The 34-year-old Aubameyang is currently making close to €180,000 per month with Premier League team Chelsea, but he is prepared to make significant financial sacrifices in order to return to Ligue 1, where his professional career first gained significant traction when he donned the green and white of St Étienne.

The player’s deal with the American-owned London club expires in June 2024, and Chelsea has made it clear that he needs to find a new starting point this summer. He is not a member of the Chelsea team that is visiting the United States for the preseason trip.

As of Monday night, OM and Aubameyang are quite close to coming to a personal deal; Marseille will probably hope Chelsea will let the Gabon international join them for free. But before going over that bridge, their immediate priority is to come to a salary understanding with the player.
