Marais Erasmus Announces Retirement Post Aus-NZ Test Series

(Cricket News) Marais Erasmus, a seasoned umpire from South Africa, has announced his retirement from international cricket. With 80 Test matches, 124 One-Day Internationals, 43 Twenty20 Internationals in men’s cricket, and 18 women’s T20Is under her belt, the 60-year-old is among the top umpires in the world of international cricket. The ongoing Test match in Wellington between Australia and New Zealand will be Erasmus’s last international encounter.

Erasmus began off as one of the world’s finest umpires in a T20I match between Australia and New Zealand in 2006. Since then, he has won three times (in 2016, 2017, and 2021), placing second only to Simon Taufel’s five victories as the ICC Umpire of the Year.

During the recent ODI World Cup 2023, the 60-year-old umpire was among the most seasoned officials. He also officiated high-profile matches, including the India-Pakistan 2017 Champions Trophy final and the India-Australia 2011 ODI World Cup quarterfinal.
