(Football news) On Saturday, the Manchester United defeated Burnley 1-0 in the league, a victory that they desperately needed. Palace will head into the match off of a goalless draw with Fulham earlier in the day.

Bruno Fernandes’ incredible volley against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday gave Man United a crucial three points while ending a three-game losing streak that had put pressure on head coach Erik ten Hag. Man United did not exactly put on a model performance, but they did manage to secure a huge three points.

The Red Devils have currently won three and lost three of their league games this year, while they began their Champions League group-stage campaign with a 4-3 setback to Bayern Munich last week.

Before Galatasaray visits Manchester in the Champions League at the beginning of October, Man United will play its next four games—four in all—at home, twice against Palace, which will also play at Old Trafford the following weekend in league play.

Before the international break, Ten Hag’s team will play Brentford, and if they can win four out of their next four games, the atmosphere around the club will be significantly different.

Man United is the current EFL Cup champion, having defeated Newcastle United in the final by a score of 2-0 last season. Despite being back in the Champions League, they will feel confident about their chances of progressing far in the competition this time around.

The only two major cup competitions that Palace has ever succeeded in winning are the FA Cup and the EFL Cup. Their finest results in these tournaments were in the seasons of 1989–1990 and 2015–16, when they reached the FA Cup finals and lost to Manchester United, respectively.

In order to advance to the third round of the competition, the Eagles already had to play in the EFL Cup this season. They defeated Plymouth Argyle 4-2 in that game.

Having won two, drawn two, and lost two of their first six Premier League games to total eight points, Palace has had a strong start to the 2023–24 season. They are now ranked ninth in the standings, one spot and one point behind their opponents in this match.

On September 16, Roy Hodgson’s team suffered a 3-1 loss against Aston Villa in their final away game. On Saturday, the team played to a scoreless draw against Fulham at home in a league encounter.

Palace will now make two trips to Old Trafford in rapid succession. The London team has a recent away victory over the Red Devils under their belt, winning 3-1 in September 2020, while Man United won the comparable game 2-1 last season.
