(Football news) Manchester City played a perfect first leg at home as they won 3-0. Pep Guardiola started the exact same XI in Bavaria in a hybrid 3-2-4-1 formation. Thomas Tuchel started Joao Cancelo ahead of Alphonso Davies at left back while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting returned to the starting line-up. Bayern Munich had a decent start to the game as Manchester City were fairly conservative. Kingsley Coman was constantly getting the better of Nathan Ake with his pace but Bayern Munich couldn’t create a clear cut opportunity. Leroy Sane had a golden opportunity in the 17th minute as he was one on one with Ederson but the German winger put his shot wide.

In the 19th minute Dayot Upamecano fouled Erling Haaland who was one on one with Yan Sommer. The referee rightly showed him a red card but Haaland was slightly offside which saved the French defender. Upamecano’s woes didn’t end as the referee gave a penalty after the ball skimmed his hand. Erling Haaland stepped up and blasted the spot kick over the bar. Bayern Munich had 2 really good chances towards the end of the first half but one was saved by Ederson while the other was blocked off by Manchester City defenders. Bayern Munich, just like the first leg, lacked quality in the final third. Manchester City naturally didn’t attack much as they had a 3 goal cushion.

In the 55th minute Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne combined really well as they were 2 on 2 but the Norwegian striker went for goal instead of squaring it to his teammate. Haaland made up for it by putting yhr tie to bed with a goal 2 minutes later. Upamecano, who had a terrible game, was left on his back by the Manchester City striker. Bayern Munich got a penalty for a very harsh handball by Manuel Akanji. The spot kick was scored by Joshua Kimmich but it was too little too late as Manchester City qualified to play the semi final against Real Madrid.
