(Football news) Manchester City are on the verge of making history. After securing their 3rd consecutive Premier League title, City have an FA Cup final against Manchester United and a UCL final against Inter Milan. Despite having their hands full, Manchester City are still working on new signings. The club is in concert talks to sign Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian has a contract till 2024 but Manchester City want to bring him to the Etihad. Chelsea will be willing to sell him for the right amount as they are always trying to refresh the midfield.
Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan’s contract ends at the end of the season. There is still no agreement reached and Barcelona are interested in signing him. The likelihood is that Gundogan will leave and Kovacic will replace him. The fact that City has already started to work on his deal shows why they have been so successful over the years. The way the Manchester City board act so quickly to keep the squad competitive is exemplary. Kovacic will be the perfect replacement for Gundogan due to his profile. The negotiations with Chelsea should be relatively easy as the London club need to sell players.
Kovacic has been really good at Chelsea however with the club having signed so many players his sale would benefit them a lot. Chelsea have the likes of Enzo Fernandes, Denis Zakaria, Conor Gallagher and Carney Chukwuemeka. N’Golo Kante whose contract ends this summer is likely to sign a new one. Mason Mount is reportedly on his way to Manchester United while Ruben Loftus Cheek is close to joining AC Milan so Chelsea will need a couple of midfielders to come in the summer.
