(Football news) Belgian striker Lois Openda has officially been acquired by RB Leipzig from Ligue 1 team Lens. The deal between the two teams is finalised, and the forward will join the Bundesliga for a cost of €38 million.
By scoring the quickest hat-trick in Ligue 1 this past season, the attacker made history. He contributed significantly to the team’s second-place finish in the standings and Champions League qualification, punching well above their weight. The player, despite having only joined Lens last summer, is moving to Leipzig in order to take on a greater challenge.
In 38 Ligue 1 appearances this past season, he scored 21 goals and contributed four assists, finishing an outstanding individual and team season. The 23-year-old joins Leipzig as yet another striker following Benjamin Sesko’s transfer from RB Salzburg, the club’s sister organisation.
Both of these teenage forwards will be expected to take over for Christopher Nkunku, who left for Chelsea this summer after a €60 million deal was reached in the January transfer window.
The fact that Openda has become the most expensive acquisition in RB Leipzig history demonstrates the cautious approach the team has taken in order to find success in Germany and Europe. The striker, who has signed a five-year deal with the club through 2028, is anticipated to be a wonderful addition.
