(Football news) After 2 disappointing results, Liverpool won 2-0 against Wolves. Jurgen Klopp made quite a few changes to the line-up as Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota started ahead of Andy Robertson and Cody Gakpo. Harvey Elliott started the game while Jordan Henderson was benched. Darwin Nunez returned to the starting line-up after recovering from his shoulder issue. It wasn’t the best performance from Liverpool but it did the job and it was a crucial win for the Merseyside club. The 3 points take them to 6th spot and keeps their top 4 hopes alive.
Wolves had 2 incredible chances at the beginning of the game but couldn’t score. Harvey Elliott had a golden chance to break the deadlock but his header was off target. The youngster almost redeemed himself but his strike from the edge of the penalty box was saved by Jose Sa. In the 55th minute, Elliot had another chance saved by Sa as the home side was piling on the pressure. Darwin Nunez looked to have given Liverpool the lead but the goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute by Virgil Van Dijk after being set up by Diogo Jota. Four minutes later Tsimikas assisted Mohamad Salah who scored the 9th goal of the season. Diogo Jota on his return to the starting line-up played really well. He showed exactly what Liverpool and even Portugal were missing in his absence. Jurgen Klopp is still looking for a fully dominant performance and he needs that to happen before the Real Madrid game. Their next match is a crucial one against Manchester United at Anfield.
